• Base: Cranial end; articulates with last lumbar vertebra. The cranial border of the body forms the promontory — important landmark for pelvic measurement.
• Apex: Caudal end; joins first coccygeal vertebra.
• Auricular surfaces: Ear-shaped articular surfaces on the sides for the ilium → sacroiliac joint.
